Neakru Sophea Nop

Master of Khmer Classical Dance

Neakru Sophea Nop

Neakru Sophea Chamroeunnop is a master teacher of Khmer classical dance, specializing in the graceful and demanding female lead roles—one of the most revered forms in the classical repertoire. She began her formal training at the Royal University of Fine Arts in Phnom Penh at the age of 12, dedicating nearly a decade to mastering the intricate movements, storytelling, and spiritual depth of Cambodian classical dance. She completed her studies in 2001 with distinction in her specialization.

In 2016, Neak Kru Sophea joined Angkor Dance Troupe with a heartfelt commitment to passing on her knowledge to the next generation. Through her teaching, she helps young Cambodian Americans reconnect with their roots, discover their cultural identity, and embrace the profound beauty of Khmer performing arts.

For Neak Kru Sophea, teaching is both an act of remembrance and resilience—a way to honor her lineage and ensure that Cambodia’s sacred dance traditions endure. With every student she guides, she breathes new life into a cultural legacy that was nearly lost to history, keeping it alive through discipline, artistry, and pride.
