Growing up in Lowell, Sokny has been involved in many local community efforts. She has volunteered, built friendships, and learned from many community leaders. Sokny is a first-generation college student and a triple Riverhawk at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, receiving a BA in Sociology, a Master's in Community Social Psychology, and a Master of Business Administration.

Sokny has over 20+ years of experience working in higher education at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She was an advocate during her work as a Youth Program Co-Advisor at the Center for Family, Work, and Community. She managed recruitment events and student affairs at the College of Engineering as Program Coordinator for Graduate Studies. Now, as Executive Assistant, she works alongside the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovations on various contracts and projects.
