Urban Khmer Ballet is an initiative created by Angkor Dance Troupe Alumni, Chummeng Soun and Peter Veth. Their mission primarily focuses on renegotiating a place for the diaspora in #Cambodian performance art and dance. We are proud to support #UrbanKhmerBallet as they innovate a new and inviting space for all dancers to come together and express themselves and share their inspiring stories.
In this episode, Lowell Telecommunications Center (LTC) visited Urban Khmer Ballet at their open rehearsal as they trained under master dancer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro. The young dancers reflect on how they began their dance journeys and how they would like to invent new forms while preserving their dances' historical roots.
